Don't run inherently flawed software, you won't get viruses. Just don't do stupid things, you won't get viruses. Running a firewall these days would be a requirement, only to be polite, and not get your machine zombied as so to perform DDoS attacks without your consent. face it, nobody is interested in your pr0n, nor your excel documents. I am sort of annoyed whenever someone runs around screaming that security is a real threat these days. Definitely worth the additional investment.
